Google generates millions of dollars of revenue from ads per day(more than 28% of their overall revenue). The ads you see on Youtube, Google’s search result page or websites, most of them are Google ads. So I am going to tell you, “How to Prevent Google from Using Your Profile Picture in Ads”.
Google has recently made some changes to their Terms of Service, according to which Google can use your Google+ profile picture in online ads. So, don’t get surprised to see your photo with any ad on Google next time.
Updated Terms of Service
According to Google:
1. Your content is only shared when you choose, and shared endorsements don’t impact who can see your content or activity.
2. To help your friends and others find cool stuff online, your activity (such as reviews, +1s, follows, shares, etc.) may be used along with your name and photo in commercial or other promotional contexts.
3. When it comes to shared endorsements in ads, you can choose whether your name and photo may be used to help your friends find stuff you love (and avoid stuff you don’t).
4. The name and photo shown in shared endorsements are the public profile name and photo you have chosen on Google+.
How to Opt Out of This Update
Fortunately you can opt out of profile pictures being shown in ads and its simple one step process.
Visit Shared Endorsements in Ads – Settings, then scroll down to the bottom of the page, you will see a checkbox saying, “Based upon my activity, Google may show my name and profile photo in shared endorsements that appear in ads”. Un-Check this box and click on save, a pop-up will open, just simply click on continue and you are done. You have successfully opted out of your profile picture being shown in ads.
