Social media sites are the second best and reliable source of traffic after search engines. Every blogger takes care of SEO, but not many of them are representing their brand on social media sites in the right way. Being active on social networks and representing your brand there are two different things. I am going the talk about some social media marketing strategies that I have learnt over past few months from my fellow Facebook page owners who are doing social media marketing for years.
Social media marketing has been their for a while, where Facebook and Google plus being the best in terms of total active users. But keep in mind that Google plus has more mature, serious and quality user base, while Facebook has fun loving, young users, when talking in general. Twitter has been low in terms of active users after Google plus came into existence, but still there are possibilities of digital marketing on Twitter. I will not focus on Twitter much, Facebook will be my primary social site in this post and I will try to add some points about Google plus too. I have not explored Google plus yet as much as Facebook.
Google plus is a social platform worth giving a try, specially for bloggers and website owners. You need Google plus account to display authorship, local business in Google SERP. So, it is kind of necessary. I have been active only on Facebook and Facebook pages are used as marketing medium on it.
Placing the Social Buttons on Website for Better Social Signals
Placement of social share buttons on your website plays a very important role in increasing your social media reach and engagement. If you write long articles (more than 800-1000 words), I would suggest to add social share buttons before and after the post. However, if you write a news type blog, it is completely upto you. Use widgets to display your brand profile/page on your blog. Also add Facebook, Google and Twitter widgets to make sure you do not lose any first time visitor. Experimenting with the positioning will help you to choose the location of widgets, I prefer sidebar over footer for social widgets.
Interact with Fans and Always be Helpful
Even if you are growing very fast, do not forget that it is your visitors who helped you reach success. It is important to know what people think about your brand. Best way to find out is to interact with them on social networks an help them, and also ask them for feedback. First impression is the last impression and also a poor support leads to negative reviews and frustrated customers (like me. This is normal, PayPal’s support is real bad).
Here is an example of a good brand page on Facebook, I have always seen them interacting with their Facebook fans and helping them out with their problems.
Use New and Advanced Features of Social Media Sites
Whenever Facebook, Twitter or Google plus launches a new feature or a beta program, make sure you participate in it. For example, Facebook’s graph search helps you to have a closer look at your fans and then helps you build a future proof strategy accordingly. Using Facebook’s schedule post option can come handy sometimes, if you can not be on social media sites all the time. Simple things like this can make a huge impact on your reach and engagement.
Join groups/communities related to your niche on Google plus (they are better than Facebook groups, trust me). Google plus is the best social media site to find people who might actually get converted into customers.
Target the Fans by their Time Zones
What is the use if you post an offer on your brand page and no one gets converted? You might be posting on wrong time, use Facebook’s insights to analyze the current locations of your fans. Give priority to the top three countries, you will start seeing the results in weeks.
Experiment with Different Post Types
On Facebook, posts with images gets more engagement by fans, so use images in most of the posts. Ask your fans questions related to your niche. Experiment with different post types and compare the results. Do not forget the #hashtags, All major social networks use them now and they can be useful to attract users to niche websites.
Do not fall for cheap fake fans, here is Why You Should Not Buy Fake Fans.
Investment Time: Using Advertisements
Facebook is the King of social media advertisements, they offer very cheap price slots for advertising your business. I wouldn’t suggest Twitter ads as they are a lot more costly than Facebook ads. Trust me a good advertisement will fetch you fans who really likes your niche or the content that you post. Design your add keeping in mind the audience you are targeting, make it interesting by adding images, asking question or offering them something for free.
Content is the king, I guess it has been said over and over again because it is right. Posting quality content on your blog alone can not help you get more fans. Posting quality content on social sites is equally important to drive more traffic to your site from social media sites.
What social media marketing strategies are you using? I am more into Facebook only, if you think anything need to be added here. Feel free to mention in the comments below.
